Fairmont Banff Springs

The penthouse we never expected.

A check-in problem became one of our most memorable hotel stays—for the way it was resolved.

A frustrating check-in at Fairmont Banff Springs turned into a stay I still remember for the right reasons.

A booking that was not straightforward.

We used discounted Oxford gift cards for one night, then booked another through Amex Fine Hotels + Resorts. Because of how the gift cards worked, I called ahead to confirm the arrangement.

Even so, the front desk had trouble processing them when we arrived. Check-in took considerably longer than expected.

What the hotel did next.

To make up for the inconvenience, the team surprised us with an upgrade to a one-bedroom penthouse suite.

The space and Rocky Mountain views were wonderful, but what stayed with me most was the response. It was thoughtful service recovery, not an upgrade trick I would expect to repeat.
