Expectation versus reality

The stopover that surprised us.

I almost talked myself out of this stopover. I left wishing we had another night.

Dream Lux Travels / San Salvador, El Salvador

El Salvador entered the itinerary because the points routing made San Salvador possible. I was nervous about going. The day became a favourite.

The part of the trip I almost skipped.

Reputation made me hesitate before arriving in San Salvador. But a day exploring the city, its markets and El Boquerón with our guide Rafael showed me how incomplete an expectation can be.

We did not speak much Spanish. Google Translate became part of the experience rather than a reason to avoid the stop.

The surprise was wanting more time.

The volcano scenery was memorable, but it was the combination of the city, the conversations and the small discoveries that made the stopover rewarding.

I would have gladly taken another night. That is a very different feeling from the one I had before the trip.
